Teams are coming out - just minutes away

Not a full-house, not even close, but a good crowd here in Hamilton in sunshine ... cooling off a bit, but still great weather. Expecting some fine running rugby!

Nasi Manu was a monster for the Highlanders last week. Liam Messam at No.8 for the Chiefs is a very different play (brains rather than brawn, although he doesn't lack muscle) - which will make this an interesting head-to-head

The Chiefs were fortunate to escape with a win, courtesy of a late intercept, against the Crusaders last week. The Highlanders were simply too motivated for the Blues. Hamilton is likely to give the Chiefs a slight edge, thereafter it is who wants this most!

The Highlanders are without Brad Thorn, while Patrick Osborne is also out. The Chiefs made a number of changes - Pauliasi Manu start at loosehead prop, with Jamie Mackintosh moving to the bench. Mahonri Schwalger will make his long-awaited return to rugby since sitting out the 2013 ITM Cup with a knee injury, and starts at hooker. Rhys Marshall drops to the bench. Lock Matt Symons and flanker Nick Crosswell come into the starting line-up for Brodie Retallick and Nick Thompson respectively. They are joined by Tanerau Latimer, who replaces Tevita Koloamatangi, with Liam Messam moving into the eightman spot. Tawera Kerr-Barlow has recovered from an ankle injury to start at scrumhalf and he replaces the injured Augustine Pulu, while the rest of the the backline remains the same.

It is still clear skies here in Hamilton and while it has suggested there will be some cloud cover later, the chance of any rain is very slim. It is currently around 17°C, but feels closer to about 13°C

Welcome to Hamilton where we are getting ready for the first match of the day - the two-time defending champion Chiefs hosting the Highlanders!
