Minute Commentary

Jamie Mackintosh gets penalised at the breakdown and that could be the final chance for the Chiefs gone as Goosen kicks for touch and finds it inside the Chiefs half. But the Chiefs win a penalty and break way! They need to go 80 metres to score and grab a draw. The go wide and it opens up for Anscombe and Cruden. Into the Cheetahs 22 now, they edge towards the line. Just 2m out now but Mils Muliana misses the ball but Retallick cleans up. It is flung to Nanai-Williams and steps through the defence and goes over under the poles for the TRY! Incredible passage of play from the defending champions! Cruden kicks the CONVERSION and that is FULL-TIME! What a fightback from the Chiefs, who trailed 10-34 at the interval. They scored five tries in the second half to storm back and snatch a draw after the hooter for the second week in a row! Stay with us and we head to Johannesburg next for the Lions against the Crusaders.

The Cheetahs milk a penalty at the scrum for an infringement and Goosen happily points at the posts. He will have a shot at goal and he kicks over the PENALTY

The visitors try to run it out of their own 22 now and win a penalty for a high tackle. They tap and go and continue to throw the ball around with freedom but Horrell knocks on and it is a Cheetahs scrum just outside their own 22 as time ticks away

The Chiefs are throwing everything at them and they charge up the field but Nanai-Williams kicks it away before Le Roux kicks in behind the defence and finds touch inside the Chiefs 22. We go up to the TMO to check for foul play.... But there is none to be found. Lineout

The Cheetahs win a penalty to relieve some pressure when Tanerau Latimer strays offside. Goosen lines up the kick from 30m out and nails the PENALTY

Howard Mnisi runs it up in midfield but Cane steals the ball from him and the Cheetahs stray offside. Penalty. Cruden will kick at goal from the left hand side of the 10m line. He pushes the penalty to the right

That was the bonus point try for the Chiefs. The Cheetahs look to hit back now and they surge into the Chiefs have but it is stolen and Pulu kicks it clear. Messam charges forward but Retallick knocks on

Cruden lands the sideline CONVERSION superbly

Some aerial ping-pong ends with Nanai-Williams decides to run and breaks before giving the ball to Mils Muliaina who is tackled. They recycle the ball quickly and send it wide to Andrew Horrell, who sends the pass to Tikoirotuma who canters over to score the TRY!

Cruden hits the posts from the sideline conversion

TRY - Chiefs scrum on halfway and they fling it wide to Tikoirotuma who chips ahead and Nanai-Williams get their first and goes over to score in the corner!

The Chiefs look to strike back and Tom Marshall runs well down the right hand side, but is taken into touch. Cheetahs lineout on their 22 and win a penalty as Retallick plays de Jager in the air. The home side set-up a lineout on the halfway line but a forward pass halts their charge

The Chiefs are penalised when Tom Marshall is found guilty of not rolling away after tackling Labuschagné. Goosen lines up the shot at goal from 49 out, straight in front and the lands the PENALTY with ease

Cruden adds the extras for the CONVERSION

The Chiefs make good ground through multiple quick passes until Labuschagné is pinged for going off his feet at the breakdown. Cruden finds touch just 8m out from the Cheetahs line. Straightaway de Jages steals the Chiefs lineout and the Cheetahs have the ball until Pretorius box kicks and clears to the 10m line

Cruden gets up underway for the second half!

Cruden makes a break in midfield and sends a good pass to Sam Cane to run onto. The Chiefs surge into the Cheetahs 22 as they look to strike back. Labuschagné is pinged for not releasing the tackler. Marshall takes it quickly for the visitors and they send it wide for Anscombe to run but he gets up after he is tackled and that is a penalty which brings HALF-TIME! What a half of rugby from the Cheetahs! They have completely dominated every facet of play and scored four tries to one to go into the dressing rooms with a 24 point lead. The Chiefs look shell-shocked but came back from 16 points down against the Bulls last week to earn a draw. Can they do it again? Join us in 10 minutes to find out.

Goosen adds the CONVERSION from right on the left hand touchline

The Chiefs have the ball but not for long as the Cheetahs turn it over and they break away where Pretorius sends a great ball to Johann Sadie who is taken down but the home side get the penalty for the visitors not rolling away. Goosen sets up the line-out, 5m from the Chiefs line. They maul and maul and Johannes Prinsloo reaps the rewards when he flops down over the line to score the TRY! Bonus point for the Cheetahs!

Goosen adds the tricky sideline CONVERSION

Good scrum from the Cheetahs and the Cheifs are penalised once more. Pretorius takes it quickly and dives over for the TRY! Quick thinking from the scrumhalf and he grabs his second try of the day!

Pretorius breaks away from the scrum and keeps going, making great yardage until he kicks for Hendricks to chase towards the corner. Gareth Anscombe is there to clean up and carries it over the line to dot down. 5m scrum to the Cheetahs

Cruden throws a loose pass and the Cheetahs get it again and runs well through Pieter Labuschagné and Francois Uys but get counterucked and Pulu kicks the ball away and it rolls and rolls and goes touch-in-goal. So we go back all the way to where he kicked it from, the halfway line

Play is stopped now as referee Craig Joubert gets in the way of a Pretorius pass. It's a scrum to the Cheetahs on halfway and Pauliasi Manu is penalised for illegal scrummaging

Goosen knocks over the simple CONVERSION

Could be another Cheetahs try here. They hack it clear from their own 22 and it bounces off a Chief, putting all the forwards in front of the kicker onside. Le Roux rushes through to collect the ball, breaks a few tackles and then sends a wide ball to Rayno Benjamin who goes over to score. But we go to the TMO to check for a forward pass and there is not, so a TRY is given

Cruden clears into touch on halfway. Cheetahs line-out. Strauss goes to the front to Jean Cook and then they spread it wide. Pretorius breaks and then Lood de Jager carries it up, but gets penalised for not realising the ball. Liam Messam takes the tap quickly and then Tom Marshall breaks clear but is caught. Johan Goosen kicks off from left to right and we are underway!

The two teams make their way out onto the field. The Chiefs led by Aaron Cruden and the Cheetahs by Adriaan Strauss

The Cheetahs have never beaten the Chiefs in seven attempts, but have managed to avoid defeat twice - when they drew 22-22 in Bloemfontein in 2007 and 25-25 in Hamilton in 2010.

The last time these two sides met here in Bloemfontein was in 2012 and it was a high-scoring encounter with the Chiefs emerging victorious 39-33. We should be in for another try feast today in good conditions for running rugby and with both sides not shy to attack.

When the two sides met last year, the Chiefs smashed the men from Bloemfontein 45-3 in Hamilton, so today's hosts will be looking to set the record straight, but it will be anything but easy against a side in good try-scoring form having run in five last week at Loftus.

Both sides will be hungry for a victory after failing to win in recent games. The Chiefs went down 15-18 to the Force and then fought back for a 34-34 draw with the Bulls last week, while before their bye last week, the Cheetahs had lost four in a row - all on their Australasian tour - against the Rebels (14-35), Reds (33-43), Hurricanes (27-60) and the Blues (30-40).

Today's Bloemfontein clash sees the last placed Cheetahs host the two time defending champion Chiefs who are lying in 3rd place on the standings.
