Minute Commentary

Stay with us as we head to Australia for the derby between the Reds and Rebels - hopefully it can replicate the excitement of this game!

Last chance for the Crusaders as they have a lineout 40 metres out, they secure and push forward... there is a penalty for the Saders, they tap and go as they reach the 22 metre line - the hooter has sounded and the ball is knocked on! and the Sharks win it!! Incredible!! - and that's a fantastic win for the Sharks!

Crusaders looking for points as they attack in the Sharks half, its rush defense as they go backwards, Nadolo throws a bad pass that goes forward and out - Sharks have a line-out

Swiel adds the CONVERSION as the Sharks look to see this game out

Sharks set a maul about 7 metres out and it is moving slowly... the use it call comes as the ball comes out, it goes down and Cooper picks the ball up 5 metres out and is over for the TRY!

Another Saders penalty, this time right in front, so not surprisingly they go for the kick. Slade gets the PENALTY over

More scrum penalties - the Crusaders have another shot at goal to take back the lead. Slade slides it across the face of the posts - Sharks still lead

Sharks having a go just inside the 22, Swiel is on for Steyn and he now has a chance for three points - the referee hands out a warning for discipline to both teams. The PENALTY is over and the Sharks snatch back the lead

Tempers are flaring now - last thing Sharks need is another card! It's all hand bags though as they settle for a scrum

PENALTY - Slade takes the lead for his team from the penalty coming from Albert's yellow card

Crusaders looking threatening but the Sharks are doing well to dull their attack and push them backwards - something has to give... penalty comes for the Saders but the ref is reaching for the pocket... Alberts has a YELLOW CARD for taking the player out past the ball

Nandola gets away from Jordaan with a Lomu style bounce but his chip is gathered and cleaned up by Reinach - he is put into touch but from the lineout the Crusaders knock it on into touch, the Sharks take the line out and secure the ball before winning a penalty so they can clear comfortably

Sharks are penalised at the scrum and Slade lines up again - his kick is good as the PENALTY sails over

Sharks almost make a hash of a kick that bounces towards the line as two players clash when they try to clear, Taufua picks up but knocks it on and is bundled into touch - footage is then lost as the cameraman is bumped over!

Steyn gets the ball from the 22 drop out and tries a drop kick! It to is short

Another chance for Steyn as Nadolo commits a silly foul, the long range kick from Steyn is short! He clearly didn't hit it right because it would usually be in his raange

PENALTY - Steyn kicks the Sharks out to a bit of a bigger lead

Sharks have a go at some phases then Reinach puts in a good chip that finds touch and puts them in a good area - Crusaders secure the ball and eventually kick it out

PENALTY - Slade brings them within one point

Crusaders have a lineout in a dangerous area for the Sharks, they secure and drive against 14 men but the visitors hold them steady they are forced to use it. Five out from the line, the big boys doing the business - it comes to Nadolo who drops it (he has dropped everything tonight!) - they go back for a Crusaders penalty and Slade steps up

TRY! - Reinach does extremely well in some typical scrumhalf play. Heinz tries to swing the ball from the line-out and it is passed into the scrumhalf's knee he hacks it down field while out-sprinting the covering defense, dives onto it and it is a try!.Steyn adds the CONVERSION from right against the touch line

The half starts with a kicking contest that plays into the Sharks hands, Steyn takes the ball out the air, but the kick-chase is good from the Saders as they bundle him into touch

We are back for the second half as Steyn kicks off deep

PENALTY - Steyn kicks a long range one to keep the Sharks in touch, they will be happy going in at HALF TIME down only three points

Crusaders caught holding on now as the Sharks win a penalty, but with all the play in their own half, they can only clear the pressure

Slade misses the penalty as we tick away to halftime

Its the Crusaders again trying to find a gap in the 14 man Sharks wall, they get a penalty as the ball is illegally stolen off the ground - look for the Crusaders to secure a bit of a lead through some penalties then later in the half it could get ugly for the visitors

Lee-Lo get ball in hand from a steady scrum, he tries a grubber that bounces of a Sharks player and into Nadolo the Sharks get the ball and try a bit of attacking of their own

more resets...

Sharks finally have a chance to attack from the line-out but from the second pass by Mtembu goes forward, back to a scrum in the middle of the park

The scrum is a little edgy so they set it up again - the scrum collapses and the Saders have a penalty. Slade adds three more from the PENALTY

Reinach puts pressure on Heinz pass from the scrum and knocks it out of his hands, but it is knocked forward so it is another Crusaders scrum a little further out - the ball comes out and Slade puts a grubber into the in-goal area, it should be an easy touch down for the Sharks but it bounces over SP Marais who slides in - Crotty follows up to try and touch it down but he knocks it forward - Sharks scrum

Crusaders are doing a lot of the return attacking from the Sharks kicks - they visitors are not putting pressure on the receivers - they do however get another penalty and are able to put the ball out on halfway

Sharks get another penalty because of Crockett are are able to clear with only seven forwards and a wing in the scrum

Sharks defense is unsurprisingly stretch ans as the Crusaders move the ball the more obvious it becomes. The ball becomes unplayable from a collapsed maul so the Sharks have a scrum on their 5 metre line to try and clear from

Crusaders definitely have the momentum as well as the man overlap as a penalty is awarded to them after the Sharks are pinned for not rolling away, they have kicked for the corner and secured the line-out and drive against the depleted forward pack

They have gone back to the spot it happened and Slade is able to kick the PENALTY

Deysel is in trouble here... he was being held by one leg trying to get rid of Jordan Taufua and in doing so stomped on his face and neck. It is a RED CARD!

Crusaders have a great lineout position - they secure the ball and drive, it is rumbling forward but they send it out within 5 metres. Reinach gets himself over the ball and wins the Sharks a vital penalty

TRY - A box kick from the Crusaders bounces in the Sharks 22, Whitelock gathers the ball and offloads to Slade who puts in a massive hand off on Steyn to make his way over the line. he is able to add the CONVERSION to his try

Bismark launches on to Heinz in a high tackle which gives Slade a chance at a 48 metres kick from the penalty - Slade has pulled out the chipping wedge as it falls very short

TRY - Brilliant work by Frans Steyn, Reinach sends the flyhalf through a gap, the defense hones in on Steyn who slows down and looks to be stranded until a fantastic out-the-back-of-the-hand pass to Sithole sees him score his first try of the season. Steyn's CONVERSION is good

Crusaders get possession from a grubber kick and try and swing it wide, it is a loopy pass that lands on Mvovo's boot into the 22, Taylor takes the ball under pressure and does well to cleverly mark the ball

Sharks are really trying to assert their dominance in the scrum, the referee resets the second one as it 'crabs' across the field - this time the Sharks get a penalty for Crockett coming in on the angle, Sharks lineout

It does not go well for 100 cap Jannie du Plessis who is penalised for coming in on the angle, the Crusaders kick for touch, The Saders secure the lineout and send it through the hands, Lee-Lo knocks it but the ref says it is backwards as the Sharks dont commit numbers, another knock on by the Crusaders but the Sharks ride it out

First touch for Nadolo from a Reinach box kick sees a knock on and it's a scrum for the two centurion props in the Sharks front row

We are underway for this first game as Slade kicks off onto the Sharks, Pietersen receives the ball, and kicks!

It is clear and cool in Christchurch, but to be honest with the Sharks we need to look at the wind conditions that will effect their kicking! at 13km/h it could be a bit of a factor to consider!

The Crusaders have decided to rest All Black Israel Dagg, who just like the Crusaders, is starting to get back to some scintillating form. The Crusaders have made Christchurch a bit of a fortress, especially against South African teams - The Sharks will be up against it.

The Sharks have shuffled their team slightly, Willem Alberts reverts to No.8 to create a bruising loose-trio with Deysel and Mtembu joining the big Springbok on the sides of the scrum. In the front row, Jannie du Plessis and Tendai Mtawarira collect their 100th caps for the Sharks, they join Bismarck du Plessis to form a formidable front row
