Minute Commentary

That is the end of the penultimate round of Super Rugby, join us next week when a number of mouth watering clashes will determine the fate of many of these teams!

TRY. The Waratahs keep adding salt to the wound, the ball comes along the line to Taqele Naiyaravoro on the wing who slips the covering tackle from parker and has an easy run in for the try. Foley adds the CONVERSION. The hooter goes and the ref decides that is enough. FULL TIME

The Highlanders still have a little fight in them but the Waratahs are looking to bash it out of them as their defense earns them a penalty with the ball getting knocked on

TRY - Burleigh gets the ball at first receiver and spots Folau out of position, he chips and chases, the gather is good as he gets over the line near the posts. Parker adds the CONVERSION

It is slow ball for the Highlanders as they get back to halfway, Smith puts a kick on to Alofa who counters well with Ashley-Cooper, the Waratahs are back on the opposition line, the ball comes wide and finds Kepu in space who looks for his try after a step, he gets gang tackled but offloads to Potgieter brilliantly who walks it over the line. Foley adds the CONVERSION

Highlanders have a chance as they set a maul 5 metres out but Skelton gets his hands on it and turns it over, but it is knocked on and the Highlanders get it back

Foley adds the CONVERSION as it hits the posts and falls over

TRY. Palu breaks off the back and runs blind, he takes the contact and pops it off the Phipps who dives for the corner and gets the score

It is another big press from the Tahs, the scrum crumbles and the referee hands the penalty to the home team. this time the Waratahs take the scrum

Wasted chance as the lineout is skew, it is a Highlanders scrum which is under pressure, Phipps poaches the ball as it comes out and drives for the line - he is held up but flips the ball out the back for Horne to dive onto! but it is forwards - another Highlanders scrum

Waratahs claw their way up field through penalties as Christie is caught offsides, they have a lineout 5 metres out

The Waratahs make a pit of a meal trying to exit their half, but a penalty comes to their rescue as the Highlanders slow down the ball - Foley clears his lines

Ball comes to Folau, and he causes some excitement with a hand off as the Tahs get within 10. They keep bashing it up through the forwards but Aaron Smith intercepts the ball and gets it to Ben Smith who breaks the line and gets way up field, he has a one on one with the fullback and decides to offload toBbuckman who gets brought down on the corner touch fflag

Another scrum, this time for the attacking Waratahs, the highlanders collapse the scrum and a penalty is awarded, Foley kicks for the touch line and reaches the opposition 22

TRY. Kepu shows some great strenghth to power of the line after Alofa Alofa popped off a brilliant out the back of the hand offload. Foley cannot convert the extras

Highlanders scrum is steady as smith floats the ball away to Sopoaga who makes good metres as the forwards come in but concede a penalty - Waratahs kick for touch into the Highlanders half

The Waratahs are going for the kill here on the 22 as lovely interchange between Foley and Beale gets them going. Skelton is now involved before Hooper spills one. The Highlanders survive for now then.

TRY. Early mistake from Ben Smith as he fumbles a pass five metres from his own line and Folau makes him pay, taking an inside ball off Beale before his power sees him over the line. Foley adds the two extra points

We are back for the second half as Foley kicks off

PENALTY.. Huge kick from Sopoaga as Phipps is penalised for hands in a ruck. A great last ten or so minutes for the Highlanders.

Play is on halfway again with the Highlanders about to put in after Christie holds up Hooper in contact.

Sopoaga adds the three points easily

Encouraging for the Highlanders forwards as Smith barks them into the home 22, which results in the 'Tahs pulling down a maul. Chance for three.

PENALTY. Christie is pinged for a ruck offence and Foley sends over the three.

Foley is looking dangerous on attack but the 'Tahs cannot finish five metres out and the Highlanders could break here. Buckman though chooses to clear.

But that's poor from Sopoaga soon after as he kicks one out on the full after good pressure in defence from the Waratahs. Home line-out bang on halfway.

PENALTY. Sopoaga makes no mistake this time though as Kepu is penalised.

So close from Sopoaga as he strikes a long-distance penalty attempt that drops under the bar. It does however eat up the clock as Smith nears his return.

Change for the Highlanders as Mitchell goes off for Ged Robinson at hooker. Smith still waits to return.

The Waratahs are now enjoying the majority of the ball until an excellent steal from Nasi Manu saves the Highlanders in their 22. Ominous stuff though.

YELLOW CARD. Aron Smith was clearly offside when he tried to stop the Waratahs attack so the ref reaches for his pocket. Foley misses the resulting extras

TRY. A long-range score from the 'Tahs as Beale and Folau combine before Hooper and Phipps send over Rob Horne for an easy run-in.

End-to-end stuff and it's the Highlanders finding their feet on halfway now after some early nerves. Malakai Fekitoa almost gets through but he's just lost the ball in contact 20 out. Waratahs scrum.

Now it's Franklin winning a key turnover for the Highlanders in his own 22, which soon results in an away scrum on the Waratahs ten metre. First chance for the visitors

Positive start for the Waratahs with lock Jacques Potgieter making ground early on. The Highlanders are now turned over by Hoiles on halfway.

PENALTY its an early mistake from the Highlanders as they look to clear the rust. No mistake from flyhalf Bernard Foley as the 'Tahs take an early lead.

We are underway as Lima Sopoaga kicks us off

The Weather in Sydney is clear with no chance of rain, but the field is looking poor!

The Highlanders, like most of the New Zealand teams, still have a chance at play-off rugby after impressing last week with a good win. Any points dropped now will be detrimental to their chances

The Waratahs have come into their own as the season has gone on with their abrasive powerful forwards complimenting their attacking, creative backs - they really look a championship team!
