Minute Commentary

Another penalty to the Reds after a great bust from Jono Owen off the penalty. A drop ball 10 metres from the Lions line means a scrum to the Lions. The Lions kick the ball into touch and that is FULL-TIME at Suncorp. A tough old scrap is won by the Lions 22-12 thanks to the boot of Owen Farrell. It's time for the double-header in Durban as Scotland take on Samoa and then the Boks take on the Italians.

Great restart from Cooper and the Reds get up and contest. The knock from the Lions means a Reds scrum on the Lions 10-metre line.

The Reds trying too much too deep in their half. The Lions have put on a lot of replacements in the forwards and it is showing as O'Connell wins the PENALTY. Farrell will knock it over from about 23 metres on the angle. The Lions are now out of reach at 22-12.

Cooper has a crack from behind his own line and does well but he throws a forward pass apparently. No advantage and the Reds have the scrum six metres from their own line.

Scrum to the lions just outside the Reds 22.

The Reds are put under a lot of pressure at the ruck in the Lions 22 and the Lions turn it over and clear it to just short of their own 10-metre line.

Scrum to the Reds inside the Lions 22 after a knock from Hogg. The crowd getting behind the home team here.

Some great play from the Reds after they take a quick line-out and Frisby plays a great ball to Rod Davies and then Frisby gets it back on the inside and goes over for the TRY. Mike Harris has taken over the kicking duties but his conversion hits the post and it's 19-12 to the Lions.

Great play from Hogg. Was just commenting on how quiet he has been in the second-half but he makes the tackle, gets up and makes the steal. The Reds have the ball on halfway and Cooper kicks and Hogg returns the favour. Line-out on the Lions 10-metre line.

Lions scrum after Frisby throws a forward pass. The Reds turn it over again but as they try and counter the Lions nearly turn it over but the Reds have the feed to the scrum 10 metres from their own line.

Lions line-out just outside the Reds 22.

Beau Robinson is knocked out cold as Vunipola takes it up and they meet heads. Robinson is going off on a stretcher.

The Reds win the penalty and Cooper goes quickly. The ball squirts out and the Lions counter attack. The Lions, also, cannot hold on to the ball and it is a Reds scrum just on their side of halfway.

Quirk doesn't roll away and it's a PENALTY to the Lions. Farrell has a shot at goal and maintains his 100% record off the tee and the Lions lead 19-7.

The rain is making handling a little difficult out there. Wallace-Harrison is hit hard by Parling in midfield and he knocks it on. Scrum to the Lions 10 metres from the Reds 22.

Reds line-out just inside their own 22. Free-kick off the line-out and they try to run it out but its turned over and Sexton kicks it back to the Reds. The ball rolls into touch six metres from the Reds line.

Some good defence keeps the Lions out but they are still plugging away but the Reds turn it over and Frisby kicks deep. Jonathan Davies is back and he has no support so he runs it into touch on halfway.

The Lions get the line-out off the kick and set up a good counter as they press to the Reds 22. Building up good phase play here as they head past 10 phases.

The Reds get the game going in the second-half.

The Reds turn it over and manage to clear to just outside their 22. The Lions have one last crack before the break as they set-up the maul. They go through a number of phases but the Reds are blown up for not releasing in the tackle. Farrell will knock the PENALTY over and that is HALF-TIME. 16-7 to the Lions at the break. The visitors had a lot of the ball towards the end of the half and deserve their lead after they soaked up the early pressure.

Big pressure from the Lions at the scrum and they get the penalty. Warburton asks for another scrum.

George North showing some phenomenal feet for a big man and he coasts through a couple of tackles. Bursts up to the Reds 10-metre line and gives it to his skipper Warburton who goes for the line and is held up over the line. Terrific defence from Cooper and Frisby. Scrum five to the Lions.

Schatz picks and goes off the base and Youngs hustles him and then rips the ball from Schatz and goes over for the TRY. Farrell's CONVERSION is over and the Lions lead 13-7.

A turnover for the Lions and they spread it wide to North who bursts down the touchline then gives a great ball inside to Farrell who dives for the line but Luke Morahan's tackle is a good one and Farrell knocks it on. Scrum to the Reds on their own five metre line.

Incredible rugby here. Both sides are dead on their feet here. The Reds win the penalty after a phenomenal passage of play. Cooper will have a shot at goal just to slow the game down a notch. Fairly straight-forward kick but Cooper pulls it wide. 22-metre restart.

The Reds line-out is not working today. After they lose their own ball it gets turned over a number of times but the Lions have it now on the attack but Beau Robinson wins the penalty eventually. Cooper taps and goes but Fiangaa kicks.

Penalty to the Reds after the Lions don't retreat at the kick. The Reds don't find touch but the Lions kick and the Reds attack from just inside their own half.

PENALTY to the Lions as the Reds don't roll away at the ruck. Farrell steps up and from five metres in from the left-hand touchline and on the 22 is over and the Reds lead the Lions 7-6.

A bad pass from Cooper nearly leads to a Lions try but the hack through from the Lions goes over the deadball line. 22-metre restart.

Some great work from Frisby as he is under pressure in his 22 but gets his kick out just past the halfway line.

Contender for TRY of the year from Luke Morohan. Absolutely scintillating break from him and then chips and regathers to score under the posts. Great chip over Stuart Hogg. The CONVERSION is good from Cooper and it's 7-3 to the Reds.

Another scrum PENALTY to the Lions and Farrell lines up a shot at goal to a lot of boos from the crowd. Farrell is about 30 odd metres out on the angle. The kick is good and the Lions lead 3-0.

Both sides are willing to keep the ball in hand but eventually Farrell tries the kick over but it goes into touch on the full. Line-out to the Reds on halfway. A little bit of drizzle coming down in Brisbane.

A great break from Tommy Bowe who throws a pass over the top to Alex Cuthbert who runs it in from about 40 metres but Morohan gets across and makes a phenomenal try saving tackle. Line-out to the Reds on their own five metre line. The Lions just showed how dangerous they are with ball in hand.

Scrum penalty to the Lions and they can clear their lines. The line-out is set three metres short of halfway.

Cooper has it on a string in the opening couple of minutes. Fiangaa could have gone by himself but he gives it wide for Davies who is tackled a few metres out. Beau Robinson knocks it on and the Lions have the scrum six metres from their own line. Time for a breather after a frantic start.

The Reds are doing all the running and a good box kick from Frisby is taken into touch inside the Lions 22 by Stuart Hogg.

Great ball from Cooper and the Reds find some space on the outside. The grubber from Morahan is picked up by the Lions and taken into touch inside their own 22.

The Lions kick-off in Brisbane. Great conditions for rugby. Farrell kicks deep. Great take from the Reds and they decide to have a crack from their own 22.

Can Quade Cooper prove himself today in order to force his way into the Wallabies side? Could be a burden on his often free-flowing game with the pressure of a place in a Lions series on the line.

The Lions have had a great start to their tour and are looking very strong heading into today's match. Today will be their first true test against a fairly strong Reds team.

Ten minutes to go until Quade Cooper leads his Reds side out against the British and Irish Lions. Queensland have only beaten the Lions once and will be hoping to halt a little bit of their momentum with a win in Brisbane tonight.
