Minute Commentary

No advantage as the Lions stela the ball illegally. The Rebels have one last shot after the hooter. Woodward goes for the line but the Lions defence holds out and take him into touch. That is the FULL-TIME whistle and the Lions win the last non-Test match 35-0.

Simon Zebo has been phenomenal today and is really pushing for an inclusion in the Test side as they Lions attack from deep.

Great individual TRY from Ben Youngs. The Lions use the back of the line-out well and Youngs throws one dummy then fends off Saffy and scores under the posts. Hogg's CONVERSION is over and the lead is 35-0.

Simon Zebo takes great high ball and then throws a beautiful pass over the top but Maitlands kick goes into touch.

The Lions are turned over deep inside the Rebels 22. Stirzaker breaks and kicks through. Hogg gets across and kicks it out. Line-out to the Rebels just short of the Lions 22.

Lions penalty and Hogg kicks to five metres from the Rebels line.

Jordy Reid's first play of the game is to get a YELLOW-CARD for a professional foul at the maul. The Lions win a PENALTY TRY and Hogg kicks the CONVERSION. 28-0 to the Lions.

Another penalty to the Lions as the Rebels go offside at the ruck. Twelvetrees kicks it into touch and the Lions have the line-out six metres out.

Rory Sidey wins the penalty as he gets his hands all over the ball five metres from his own line.

A phenomenal break from Luke Jones the Rebels reserve lock. They flood through to the Lions five metre line but a kick from Burgess means the Lions get the ball and Hogg can clear to just outside his 22.

The Rebels need to do something special and they kicking it too much. They just need to have a crack here. Again they kick it and the Lions have the line-out on the Rebels 10-metre line.

The Lions finally get themselves another TRY as they use the short-side of the line-out and Lydiate gives O'Brien a great little pass and he goes over for the score. Farrell's CONVERSION is over and the Lions lead 21-0.

Lions penalty just on the Rebels 22. Farrell kicks to the corner. Five metre line-out.

An unecessary pass from Maitland goes into touch and the Rebels can breathe again. Hegarty with better kick but the Lions are still on the attack 25 metres out.

Lions line-out on the Rebels five metre line. A bad clearence from Hegarty.

The Rebels do beautifully on defence and they disrupt the line-out of the Lions and win the scrum. Still deep inside their 22 but they have the ball.

A great start from the Rebels. They are keeping the ball beautifully but they just can't get on the outside. Penalty to the Lions and Farrell goes quickly inside his own half.

The Rebels get the second-half underway at the AAMI Park.

The Rebels lose their line-out and the Lions clear to the 22. The Rebels have another shot off the line-out and Hegarty kicks into the 22 but Kearney reads it well and Murray knocks it out. The Rebels have one last shot after the hooter. Hegarty kicks across for English but the ball wins and goes into touch. HALF-TIME at AAMI Park and it is 14-0 to the Lions.

The Rebels win the penalty after the Lions go offside. Line-out is the option for the Rebels. Five metres out.

The Rebels are on the front foot but the defence from the Lions has been very solid. Mitch Inman finds himself against a few tight forwards and bursts through. The Rebels are seven metres out.

A few handling errors from the Lions are costing them a few more chances in this half. They are having a good go so it is excusable. Scrum to the Rebels just outside their own 22.

The Lions line-speed has been great on defence and the Rebels have not had an opportunity to get over the advantage line.

TRY to Sean Maitland in the right-hand corner of the field. A great take from the high ball by Murray and an awesome offload from Tuilagi to Faletau who slips short and Maitland gets it on the right and goes over in the corner. The CONVERSION from Farrell is over and it is 14-0 to the Lions.

The Rebels are able to keep the ball for a couple of phases and head towards the Lions 22. Some good defending from the Lions but they steal the ball illegally and it is a Rebels penalty. Woodward's kick at goal from in front is pushed wide. Still 7-0 to the Lions.

A knock from Cole in the Rebels 22 gives the ball away and the Rebels try and break but a good tackle from Barrett means Hegarty has to clear but it only goes as far as his 22.

A let-off for the Rebels as Gray knocks it on at the line-out. Scrum to the Rebels five metres inside their 22.

No advantage and the Lions have another penalty just on the Rebels side of halway. Farrell kicks it out five metres inside the Rebels 22.

The Lions forwards really put the Rebels under pressure with a good secondary shove at the scrum. Faletau goes for the line but is held short. Conor Murray has a go for the line and scores the TRY. Farrell kicks the CONVERSION. 7-0 to the Lions.

A beautiful little grubber from Barrett is picked up by Woodward and taken over his line. Five-metre scrum to the Lions.

The Lions backline is looking fairly dangerous but the Rebels are defending well. It is just a question of how much longer they will be able to hold them out for.

A few too many passes from the Lions and one too many 50/50 passes leads to Rebels scrum. Massive pressure on the homeside. Scrum is about 12 metres from their own line.

The Lions are really building some momentum well but Scott Fuglistaller wins a good turnover. Burgess kicks just out just outside his own 22.

First scrum of the day and the Lions win the penalty. Massive shove from the Lions. Farrell knocks the kick out just passed his own 10-metre line.

The Rebels really had a good opportunity to attack with a line-out inside the Lions 22. Knock on from Burgess off the line-out. Scrum to the Lions.

Great penalty won by Toby Faletau on his own 22 as the Rebels hold on on the ground. Farrell knocks it out just passed haflway.

A good turnover won by Sean O'Brien and Farrell kicks deep but a beautiful kick from Woodward, right up against the touchline goes out on the Lions 10-metre line.

Some slick hands from the Lions forwards but as they shift it wide it goes forward. The Rebels scramble to get the ball off the park. Woodward knocks it out on halfway.

The Lions get the match going.

A pretty chilly evening in Melbourne as the sides run onto the field. Dry evening which should provide the Rebels with a good chance to have a good crack at the Lions.

A packed AAMI park is expected as the teams prepare to take to the field.

A number of changes in the Lions side for the game today as well as the withdrawl of Geoff Parling from the starting XV. Dan Lydiate leads the Lions for the first time against the Rebels.

20 minutes to go until kick-off at AAMI Park. The Rebels feel that this is their chance to claim a massive scalp as the Lions focus shifts almost entirely to the second Test and this is their chance to cause the second upset of the tour. With that said the Lions are not going to want to experience what they experienced against the Brumbies last week.
