Minute Commentary

Up next we bring you live coverage of the game between the Free State Cheetahs and the Blue Bulls.

Griquas have no option but to run but the Lions secure a turnover and Cronje finds touch. That's FULL-TIME! The Lions come from behind to seal the win and book their place in the semis.

De Kock is nearly away only to be ankle-tapped. Westraadt kills the ball and is duly YELLOW CARDED but Boshoff's penalty misses off the post.

Britz turns the game on its head with a sensational solo TRY! Boshoff adds the CONVERSON to put the Lions up by seven.

Griquas keep ball in hand before Basson opts for a chip and chase. Boshoff does brilliantly to field and evade a few tackles and Griquas are penalised at the breakdown so the Lions get out of their half.

Prinsloo finds space with a booming kick and the Lions naively try to run out of their 22 again. This time Griquas are up to the task and Roux is penalised for a cynical charge off the ball. Prinsloo kicks the PENALTY and it's all-square!

The Lions run out of their 22 and catch Griquas by surprise. Mapoe makes a great offload but it goes into touch off Jansen's hand.

Griquas attack with continuity as they look to hit back but Wepener wins a turnover on the deck.

Griquas collapse the maul and are given a warning. This time going for the line-out seems to pay dividends as Mapoe scores in the corner but the try is disallowed as Van Rooyen is adjudged to have knocked on. The Lions had advantage, though, and Boshoff kicks the PENALTY!

The Lions turn down the kick at goal and it doesn't pay off as Karemaker claims a steal at the line-out and Griquas clear.

Whiteley wins a turnover by holding up the maul from the restart and Van Niekerk is pinged at scrum time.

Prinsloo, however, squares the ledger immediately through a PENALTY after a string of Lions infringements.

Griquas are feeling the heat and are blown up once more, which sees Boshoff kick the Lions into the lead with a PENALTY!

The Lions are right back on attack with Wepener breaking two tackles. Griquas give away a penalty five metres out so the Lions take it quickly and Wepener barges over for the TRY! Boshoff's CONVERSION levels the scores.

Griquas hit it up a number of times from the scrum and finally Gerber finds touch.

Coetzee makes a linebreak inside Griquas' 22 but he throws a 50-50 offload that doesn't go to hand so it's a bit of a let off for Griquas.

Van Rooyen is penalised for a shoulder charge that brings an end to another multiphase Griquas attack. Prinsloo converts the PENALTY!

Boshoff starts the second half with his team - despite scoring two tries to one - trailing by four.

Griquas hoof the ball into touch from the scrum so that's HALF-TIME! Griquas, against all expectations, lead 19-15!

Liebenberg is penalised for not showing daylight and again the Lions opt for the line-out only for Griquas to hold up the maul and win a turnover.

Adriaanse's scrummaging prowess comes to the fore as he wins a kick at goal for Griquas and Prinsloo nails the PENALTY!

A poor mistake from the restart by the Lions affords Griquas an attacking scrum.

The momentum is with the Lions now as they attack with intent. Coetzee sees space and grubbers in-goal for Volminck who outstrips Griquas and dots down just in time. TRY time! Boshoff can't add the extras so Griquas remain in the lead.

The Lions cross for their first TRY through Van Rooyen who powers over. Boshoff adds the CONVERSION and the Lions are right back in it.

The Lions are back on attack and this time Arnold is penalised so the hosts set-up the line-out.

Down by 13, the Lions kick to the corner after Adriaanse was blown up. They get some continuity but aren't winning much ground and Griquas - after 10 phases - win a turnover penalty to escape from their 22.

A forward pass by the Lions gift the free-running Griquas possession. The ball goes wide from the scrum to Jansen who chips, chases and collects to score a great TRY! Prinsloo's CONVERSION is good and it's all Griquas at this stage.

The Lions win the line-out but Minnie is penalised for not releasing. Prinsloo is on target with the PENALTY!

Botha counter-attacks from an aimless kick but with no support he plays the ball on the ground and concedes a penalty.

Tecklenburg does good, strong work to hold up Francke from the restart so the Lions will feed the scrum inside the 22. Boshoff hits it up and Bondesio looks to recycle quickly only to knock-on. Gerber clears from the scrum.

Griquas attack with great fluency and win a penalty for their 10-phase effort. The forward hit it up from the line-out and come within a metre where the Lions kill the ball. Prinsloo pops over the easy PENALTY!

Griquas get some good go-forward with a multiphase attack into the Lions 22 where Tecklenburg is pinged at the breakdown. Prinsloo slots the PENALTY!

Helberg stabs ahead and a mistake by Prinsloo gifts the Lions possession. Griquas go offside in their 22 and Boshoff kicks the PENALTY!

Gerber gets us underway and his kick-off is straight into touch!

With the semis in their sights, the hosts are expected to be sharp. Griquas, meanwhile, have nothing to lose which suggests they’ll chance their arm and have a full go. Similarly, though, they have nothing significant to gain and could thus lack motivation. It’s overcast in Johannesburg so it may well rain at some stage.

The Lions need just two log points to seal their place in the play-offs but have vowed to take a calculated approach and ensure they get the win to build momentum ahead of the semifinals. Van der Merwe returns to the run-on side after making his Bok bow last weekend while Van Rooyen starts at loosehead. In the backline, Coetzee finds himself in midfield with Helberg at No.14 and Botha at No.15.

Last-placed Griquas have already turned their focus to their upcoming two-match promotion-relegation series against the Pumas and have all but conceded today’s encounter having rested many of their first-choice players. They’ve made 12 changes in all and have opted to rest Bok playmaker Le Roux, although Adriaanse returns from Bok duty and will captain the visitors.

Welcome to our build-up to the first match of the Bok boosted final round pitting the Golden Lions against Griquas at Ellis Park.
