Province run from deep but a sloppy pass is lost forward which looks like their last hope gone. The scrum goes up and is reset which suits the Lions perfectly. Carstens is blown up for scrumming inwards so James kicks it out to seal the victory for the Lions. That was a great performance from the defending champions who move to the top of the log. |

The Lions hang on to the ball and Fourie goes off his feet again so they can clear it out of the 22 and set up the line-out. Coetzee finds touch near halfway and they set the maul. the ball goes to James who kicks for the corner. Van den Heever is there and Province try to run it out of their 22. Ntubeni gets his hands out the tackle and finds De Allende in space but he is isolated and the Lions turn it over and clear into touch once more as frustration builds for the home side. |

The Lions secure possession again before James puts a pinpoint kick out right in front of the Province tryline to increase the pressure on the hosts before half-time. Ntubeni took too long to throw it in so the Lions will have an attacking scrum to end the half. Bondesio give it to Des Fountain who is brought down just short. It goes out to James who shows quick hands but Mapoe can't hold on and the ball goes into touch. The Lions have absorbed the pressure well to take a slender lead into the break. It is solid and Bondesio kicks long but Pietersen is there and he gives it to Brache. There is little support so Catrakilis kicks it into the corner. Helberg does well to field it and he gives it to Mapoe who steps past a defender and out of the 22. The Lions eventually clear it and Schreuder runs it back at them this time. It goes to the left and Deon Fourie gets it away well to De Allende near the Lions 22 but the Lions hold the wing up in the tackle and force the turnover. |
