Puma prop in Shark Tank

Mon, 11 Aug 2008 22:35

The Sharks, who already have two World Cup props and another Springbok front row forward on their books, have signed an Argentinean for the remainder of the Currie Cup season.

The Sharks have secured the services of Argentine 'A' prop forward Juan Pablo Orlandi.

His Italian club, Rovigo, has confirmed that Orlandi will Join the Sharks until the end of October.

According to a statement from the club Orlandi will be arriving in Durban on August 20.

It is not sure why the Sharks would want another prop, as their front row stocks include World Cup-winners Jannie du Plessis and BJ Botha, while Springbok Deon Carstens is also playing Currie Cup rugby.

Orlandi, a loosehead prop, represented Argentina 'A' at the Churchill Cup tournament in Canada earlier this year.

* Meanwhile Sharks coach John Plumtree has confirmed that scrumhalf Scott Mathie has played his last game for the coastal franchise against Western Province last Friday and is set to join Leeds Carnegie in England.

Mathie has started at scrumhalf in five games for the Sharks since Rory Kockott's second round injury and Plumtree said he had really proven his worth in this time.

"Scott has done extremely well for us of late and has really shown his value over the last five or six weeks," Plumtree said, adding: "We do have depth in this position but it is still very sad to see him go."

And depth they do have as Kockott should be fit by the time the Sharks play Boland in Round Nine.
