Seven changes for Pumas

Thu, 26 Jun 2008 17:57

The Argentina team, to face Italy in a one-off Test in Córdoba on Saturday, shows seven changes to the side that lost to Scotland in Buenos Aires almost a fortnight ago.

Head coach Santiago Phelan made three changes to his backline - Gonzalo Tiesi and captain Felipe Contepomi making way for Marcelo Bosch and Miguel Avramovic in a new-look midfield.

World Cup star Juan Martín Hernández is back at flyhalf, with Federico Todeschini dropping out of the matchday 22.

The brothers Fernández Lobbe, openside flank Juan and lock Ignacio, both make way for Álvaro Galindo (in the No.7 jersey) and Manuel Carizza (at lock) respectively.

Santiago González Bonorino is replaced at tighthead prop by Juan Gómez  and loosehead prop Marcos Ayerza makes way for Rodrigo Roncero.

Fabián Turnes, the assistant coach, described the Test against Italy as an "important" game that must be won after the disappointment of losing in the second Test to Scotland and sharing the two-match series with the Scots.

"We must get back on the winning track and regain our confidence," Turnes said.

Argentina: 15 Bernardo Stortoni, 14 Lucas Borges, 13 Marcelo Bosch, 12 Miguel Avramovic, 11 Horacio Agulla, 10 Juan Martín Hernández, 9 Nicolás Vergallo, 8 Juan Manuel Leguizamón, 7 Álvaro Galindo, 6 Martín Durand, 5 Esteban Lozada, 4 Manuel Carizza, 3 Juan Gómez, 2 Álvaro Tejeda, 1 Rodrigo Roncero.
Replacements: 16 Pablo Gambarini, 17 Pedro Ledesma, 18 James Stuart, 19 Alejandro Campos, 20 Alfredo Lalanne, 21 Federico Martín Aramburu, 22 Hernán Senillosa.
