Aussie trio fined for food fighting

Sun, 28 Jun 2009 11:42

Three Australian rugby players, including 18-year-old James O'Connor, have been fined for engaging in a food fight at their team hotel ahead of their clash against France last Saturday.

Quade Cooper, 21, and Josh Valentine, 26, were the others involved in the incident, which required one of the player's rooms to be cleaned at an additional cost.

"The ARU is extremely disappointed by their behaviour as it does not meet the required standards of a Wallaby," an unidentified spokesman was quoted as saying by Australian Associated Press.

The ARU fined all three players and declared the matter closed.

It did not deem the offense serious enough to drop O'Connor or Valentine from the bench for Saturday's 22-6 test win over France in Sydney.

O'Connor, a fullback, scored three tries in his starting test debut when Australia beat Italy on June 13.
