Warringah hold off H'landers comeback

Warringah have survived a thrilling second half comeback by Gordon to record a five point victory in their Shute Shield Round 14 match at Chatswood Oval.
Gordon was the only team in the top six to be defeated this weekend - with Manly, Sydney University, Randwick and Eastern Suburbs also recording victories.
Eastwood remain one point adrift of the top six despite a 64-point victory over Penrith

Gordon v Warringah at Chatswood Oval
A second half comeback from Gordon fell just short with Warringah holding on for a 31-26 victory at Chatswood Oval.
John Kennedy and Josh Holmes each scored doubles for the Rats who led by 24 points at half-time.
The momentum shifted almost immediately after the break with the Highlanders getting to within three points before Warringah's fifth try sealed the game.
Warringah were out of the blocks early when a break by Waratahs recruit Holmes ended in the hands of Kennedy who crossed.
Not long after, the man who Holmes is replacing at the Waratahs, Brett Sheehan, targeted the blind side with a swift cut-out pass which put Dylan Smouha over in the corner.
One of Gordon's most promising raids was snuffed out by young lock Hugh Pyle who intercepted and triggered a charge downfield. With great back-up through the hands, Kennedy crossed for his second adjacent to the posts, with Sheehan's first conversion sending the Rats to a 17-0 lead.
They weren't done with however, and when Sheehan kicked through for Holmes to score, the conversion sent Warringah to the break with a bonus point already in the bag and a 24-0 advantage.
Chris Alcock was rewarded for his stellar performance with the opening points of the second half when he crossed, and Dave Harvey's conversion closed the margin to 17 points.
Gordon continued to apply the pressure and crossed through Western Force hooker Ben Whittaker. Harvey again converted to leave the scoreline 24-14 with 15 minutes to play.
The momentum was well and truly with the Highlanders and a break from Junior Waratahs prop Ofa Fainga'anuku resulted in a try under the posts a few phases later to Harvey, who duly converted his own try to reduce the margin to three after 70 minutes.
An extended injury break after a collapsed scrum seemed to do the trick for Warringah who started to gain the edge.
A run around from Sheehan and Beau Robinson then released Holmes on halfway, with the scrumhalf-come-centre showing great speed to outpace the Gordon outside backs over 45m for his second try. Sheehan converted with three minutes remaining for a ten-point advantage and the game was over.
Gordon however ensured the home side finished the game with some reward for their comeback, crossing through Josh Kiel two minutes after the full-time bell to earn two bonus points.

Manly v Parramatta at Manly Oval
Manly were forced to work hard to record a 31-14 victory over Parramatta and retain their eight-point advantage at the top of the competition.
The Two Blues brought their A-game to Manly in the first half and the two sides could not be separated after 40 minutes, going to the break at 7-all.
However the Marlins asserted their dominance in the second half scoring three tries to one to secure the bonus point win.

Eastwood v Penrith at TG Millner Field
Eastwood have attained the highest score of the 2009 Shute Shield with a 76-12 victory over Penrith at TG Millner Field.
The Woodies were on top from the outset, rushing to a 34-0 lead at the break before scoring at more than a point a minute in the second half to run away with the match.
John Grant picked up a hat-trick of tries for the home side, with Barry Fa'amuasili, Western Force half Chris O'Young and captain Hugh Perrett all collecting doubles.
Ben Batger converted nine of Eastwood's 11 tries, which along with a penalty goal and a touchdown of his own saw the Woodies' fullback tally 26 points.

Sydney University v West Harbour at University Oval No.1
Sydney University has put a big dent in West Harbour's finals aspirations with a 60-15 victory at University Oval No.1.
Pat Ryan, Pat McCutcheon and Nathan Trist all scored two tries, while Daniel Halangahu's return netted a 13-point haul with the boot for the Waratahs flyhalf.
West Harbour started 2009 with four straight losses, but hit back with six consecutive victories. The loss is the Pirates' fourth in a row and they now sit more than a bonus point victory out of the top six after sitting in second place a month ago.

Randwick have leapt into third place on the Shute Shield ladder with a 46-15 victory over Southern Districts at Coogee Oval.
The Galloping Greens representative stars stood out for the home side, in particular Waratahs Ben Mowen (2), Ratu Nasiganiyavi (2) and Sekope Kepu who scored five tries between them. Marshall Milroy continued his good form with the boot with another 11 points.
The bonus point win sees Randwick leapfrog Gordon into third position on the ladder.

Eastern Suburbs v Northern Suburbs at Woollahra Oval
Eastern Suburbs gained revenge for their round three loss to Northern Suburbs with a 36-16 victory at Woollahra Oval.
The Beasties scored two tries to nil in the first forty to leap to a 19-9 advantage, then scored three tries to one in the second half in a dominant display to secure the 20-point victory.
Gavin Debartolo kept up his good form as one of Easts' key players with a 16-point haul from a try, four conversions and a penalty goal.
