Schools Sevens set for Suncorp final

Some of the Queensland's top rugby schools will come together on Wednesday at Ballymore to begin a Queensland Sevens Rugby schoolboy competition, with the top four teams to play as curtain-raisers to Friday night's Reds v Crusaders match at Suncorp Stadium.
The event has 14 schools going head-to-head during the pool stage and quarter-finals on Wednesday before the semi-finals and final take place at Suncorp on Friday evening.
They include Keebra Park State High School and GPS powerhouse rugby schools Brisbane State High, St Joseph’s Nudgee College, Brisbane Boys College and Ipswich Grammar School.
The winner will be flown to St Ignatius’ College, Riverview on March 31 to compete against six teams from New South Wales and another from Australian Capital Territories.
Sevens rugby is an exciting alternative to the 15-a-side game and with its inclusion to the Olympic Games from 2016, the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has begun developing a school-based tournament to help promote the game in both traditional rugby playing schools and those that are relatively new to the game.
The ARU hopes to build the tournament on a national scale in the near future with teams from each state in Australia represented.
