England international and 2003 World Cup winner Mike Tindall on Monday admitted drink-driving when he appeared in court to answer the charge.
The 29-year-old Gloucester centre pleaded guilty before magistrates in Reading, west of London, to being over the legal alcohol limit when police stopped him on a motorway on March 15 this year.
He had spent the previous day at the Cheltenham horse-racing festival with his girlfriend Zara Phillips, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II and a world champion eventer.
He was bailed until October 24 for a "special reasons" hearing. His lawyer, Richard Mallett, said a medical expert would be called to present the special circumstances of the case but gave no further details.
At the time of the offence, Tindall was out injured after suffering a bruised liver in a Six Nations championships game against eventual winners Wales.
The player spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth in court and left without commenting to waiting reporters.
