Cipriani promises rapid recovery

Mon, 07 Jul 2008 17:34

England and Wasps flyhalf Danny Cipriani is confident he will return to full fitness after a fracture dislocation of his ankle.

The 20-year-old had surgery on the injury, sustained in his side's Premiership semi-final victory over Bath on May 18 - which ruled him out for six months and saw him miss England's end-of-season tour of New Zealand.

Last week however, Cipriani was named in Martin Johnson's Saxons squad for next season and is confident of making a full recovery.

"There is no doubt in my mind I can be as physically fast as I used to be," said Cipriani.

"It has been a day at a time and I've been positive since it [the injury] happened," he added.

Cipriani said he was grateful for the support he had received during his rehabilitation from both Johnson and his club.

"Wasps and England have not put any pressure on me coming back too soon - they want me to come back when I'm comfortable," he told Sky Sports News.

"Martin Johnson has been very reassuring. He spoke to me two days after I got the injury, as well two weeks before the announcement of the England Performance Squad (EPS) and reassured me there was no pressure on me getting back," Cipriani added.
