Wilko wants England captaincy

England's 2003 World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson may well be in line to lead his country. Team manager Martin Johnson has not yet revealed who will be his first full-time appointment in the role of captain, having temporarily handed the job to Steve Borthwick on the recent and disastrous tour of New Zealand.
Former captain Phil Vickery will also likely be in the running, while players such as Simon Shaw, James Haskell and Tom Rees have all been mentioned for the job.
Wilkinson has skippered his country in the past and he was the initial choice of former coach Andy Robinson, before injury cut short the role.
"That is a team you would look at and say immediately it would be an honour for anyone to lead," Wilkinson told Sky Sports News.
"I have captained the side – not as many times as others but I have always really enjoyed the job because you just have this feeling when you look at the guys around you and you think it is a pleasure to be here.
"It is one of those things where whoever is asked I'm sure will be overjoyed. I don't know too many people who have been asked to captain England and turned it down."
