Flood's disappointment

Tue, 18 Nov 2008 17:39

Leicester Tigers flyhalf Toby Flood admits that he is bitterly disappointed not to have cracked it into the England side for this weekends clashwith the World Champion Springboks but says he remains determined to play his part for the team.

Flood has now started all three of the November tests on the bench for England but had been hopeful of making a return to the starting lineup after last weekend’s disappointing 28-14 defeat to the Wallabies at Twickenham.

Speaking to Eurosport-Yahoo! Flood said: "It's always disappointing not to start a Test match, but at the same time you realise what the reasons are for the manager's decision, and it's important for the team to have some stability,"

"There is a new coaching setup and different techniques being implemented, so I suppose it is good to have a settled team to start with."

Coach Martin Johnson made just one change to his side that lost to the Australians, bringing in Wasps flank James Haskell for Tom Croft, and has therefore chosen to continue to stick by under-pressure flyhalf Danny Cipriani.

Although in competition with him for a starting spot Flood says he fully understands why his coach has opted for the 21 year-old flyhalf and says that he hopes the Wasps star is able to produce this weekend for the national side.

"He is a very good player of course. Things are not all going his way at the moment but that happens to every player, and there is no doubt that he is a very talented individual," he said.

Is he unlucky not to be starting? Would you have stuck by Cipriani? Let us know...
