England fans have their say
England Elite director Rob Andrew has urged all rugby supporters in England to have their say on the Experimental Law Variations (ELVs) before any vote to make them permanent.
The Rugby Football Union is the only union in the world giving people the opportunity to express their views on the 13 ELVs being trialled globally by the International Rugby Board, via a website survey.
The results will be used as part of the RFU's report to the IRB, who will vote on whether to implement the ELVs into rugby law in May 2009.
And with just a fortnight left until the December 16 survey closing date, Elite Rugby Director Andrew said: "What's happening is the biggest lawmaking change in the history of the game.
"It's a bit like a general election - if you have an interest in how the game is going to look in the future then you've got to take the time to reflect on the proposals and how they will affect you, whether you are a supporter, player, coach or referee.
"We'd like [the public] to take part in the debate. There's no point turning round in a couple of years' time and saying 'how did this happen?' This is the chance to make your voice heard."
Ed Morrison, who refereed the 1995 Rugby World Cup final and is now the RFU Head of Elite Referee Development, added: "This is an ideal chance for rugby supporters to have their say on the ELVs.
"[Public] views will form part of RFU's response on what impact the ELVs have had and it's important that everyone's voice is heard. The ELVs could potentially change the game massively and therefore we need responses from all levels of the game."
