'I believe' says Wilkinson

Thu, 04 Dec 2008 18:56

The missing link: Jonny Wilkinson

Injured England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson has come out in support of his former captain, and current England coach, Martin Johnson.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live the Newcastle No.10 said he remains confident that Johnno is the man to lead England and also then explained that he would not rule himself out of being ready for action with England by the time the 2009 Six Nations kicks off in February.

"I'm not sure [when I will be back in action], “ said Wilkinson.

"At the moment I'm still waiting to get on my feet, properly move around [which] should be around January time and after that I'd like to think I could come back.

So will he be back for the Six Nations? "I hope so, I'm always positive."

Turning his attention to Johnson, and the struggling England team, Wilkinson said it would be foolish to start questioning the former World Cup winning captain and the RFU system as a whole now.

"I believe he will be (successful).

"I don't say that as helping out someone I know, I genuinely believe it.

"To think someone is going to achieve straight away without going through a period of learning and adjustment is ridiculous.

"Jonno is such a clever, astute guy that he will pick up on that learning very quickly.

"I trust the system, I trust Martin Johnson, I trust the coaches and the players."

Do you trust the System? Do you trust Martin Johnson? Do you trust the coaches and the players? Let us know...
