U20 qualifiers in Tunis
Fri, 22 Aug 2008 13:53
Zimbabwe and Morocco had good starts in the Tunisian heat to the Confederation of African Rugby's Under-19 tournament which serves as a qualifier for the International Rugby Board's Junior World Trophy next year.
There were to have been eight teams taking part but Uganda and Madagascar pulled out. Namibia are late arrivals which means that the fixtures for the tournament needed revision and only two matches were played on the first day.
Zimbabwe beat Tunisia 18-11 and Morocco beat Kenya 21-18 in two closely contested matches.
Namibia are the defending champions and represented Africa at the first IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy in Chile where they ended fifth. This time they had problems with their travel arrangements, could not leave on time and ended flying via Johannesburg and Dubai to Tunis. Their home trip is still uncertain.
