Naughty Kaino awaits NZRU wrath

Mon, 14 Jul 2008 11:20

All Black Jerome Kaino has been fined in court for an alcohol related driving offence, and will now face a misconduct hearing by the New Zealand Rugby Union.

The 25-year-old Kaino was fined NZ$800 (ZAR 4,650) and banned from driving for six months after pleading guilty in Auckland District Court to driving under the influence of excess alcohol in Auckland on June 27.

The Auckland Blues player was involved in a 'fender-bender' accident in Dominion Road in Auckland.

Kaino was breath-tested following the collision, and he returned a blood alcohol reading of 834 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit in New Zealand is 400.

After the court hearing, the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) announced that Kaino would be subjected to a misconduct hearing within the next two to three weeks.

Kaino has admitted regret at the incident, and has vowed that he would not commit a similar offence again in future.

He told NZPA that he took full responsibility for his actions and had expected disciplinary action from the union, but wanted to "push it all behind me and get on with life".
