Bad break for Laulala

Mon, 14 Jul 2008 12:26

Canterbury, Crusaders and All Black centre Casey Laulala has been dealt a massive blow after breaking his arm in a club match on Saturday.

Laulala is now likely to miss the bulk of the Air New Zealand Cup tournament, New Zealand's premier domestic competition.

"The fracture's been confirmed," Canterbury coach Rob Penney told The Press newspaper.

Penney said that Laulala was scheduled for an operation on Monday, but that it was far too early to speculate on a return date for the player.

Canterbury will get their Air New Zealand Cup campaign underway on August 2 against Manawatu in Christchurch.

Penney is due to name his Cup squad this week, with prop Campbell Johnston set to be named after recovering from a hand injury which cut short his Super 14 season with the Crusaders.
