Kiwi boy dies from injuries

Wed, 16 Jul 2008 10:29

A 17-year-old schoolboy who suffered a broken neck in a match three weeks ago died Tuesday, the fifth New Zealander to die from rugby-related injuries since 2001.

Robert Hickland suffered his injuries in a tackle while playing for Feilding High School against Rathkeale College in New Zealand's central North Island on June 28.

He died in the spinal injuries unit at Burwood Hospital in Christchurch, family members said.

Hickland had played for New Zealand at under-17 level.
