Another All Black heads north

Mon, 21 Jul 2008 23:49

Discarded All Black loose forward Chris Masoe on Monday became the latest New Zealand player to head to the cash-flush clubs in Europe when he signed a two-year contract with French Top 14 side Castres.

The Wellington and Hurricanes loose forward, who played the last of his 20 Tests when he came on as a replacement in the World Cup quarterfinal loss to France last year, joins a side that finished fifth in the Top 14 last season.

Masoe's departure means the All Blacks' loose forward stocks have been further reduced.

The flank did not make this year's initial All Black squad, but was recalled for the opening Tri-Nations matches as cover for injured captain Richie McCaw.

He did not feature in either of the two tests against South Africa and has since been replaced in the squad by Daniel Braid.
