'Calm down fist' floored Bastareaud?

Mon, 29 Jun 2009 12:46

French newspaper Le Parisien on Sunday suggested that it was in fact one of Mathieu Bastareaud’s teammates who 'calmed him down' with a fist and left him with a bruised eye and requiring stitches.

The Bastareaud saga continues to twist and turn after it was first reported that he had been assaulted by 'four or five' people in New Zealand following the second test in Wellington last weekend.

Since then the powerful centre has admitted that there was never any assault but that he had stumbled and fell on a table in his hotel room.

As if that was not an embarrassing enough situation for French rugby, the Le Parisien publication has now alleged that one of his French teammates, believed to have possibly been Louis Picamoles or Fulgence Ouedraogo, took a swing at the 20 year-old Stade Francais man to try and control him.

"Drunk and aggressive, Bastareaud was reportedly calmed down by a fist from one of his teammates," read the daily paper.

All parties, including Picamoles and Ouedraogo, have so far denied the incident but this saga seems set to continue to attract widespread media attention until the truth is finally confirmed.
