The International Rugby Board (IRB) council, at its recent special meeting in Hong Kong, reaffirmed its commitment to the global trial of the Experimental Law Variations (ELVs) that will commence on August 1 and called for an early review of the trials in the first quarter of 2009.

Three IRB tournaments ended this weekend. In Wakes New Zealand won the inaugural Junior World Championship, in Chicago England Saxons won the Churchill Cup and in Romania Emerging South Africa - whatever that is - won the Nations Cup.

In the Final of the Junior World Championships being played in Wales, New Zealand were much too good for England, winning 38-3. New Zealand were certainly the best side at the tournament.
