Portugal win Euro Sevens

Portugal won the European Sevens Tournament played in Hanover, Germany, over the weekend., a tournament which doubled as a qualifier for the 2009 Sevens World Cup in Dubai.

Five teams were to qualify.

The teams were divided into two pools. The first two in each pool would qualify. The teams coming third and fourth in each pool would qualify for the plate and the winner of the plate would also head for Dubai.

The teams qualifying are Portugal, Wales, Georgia, Ireland and, by the skin of their teeth, Italy.

The tournament was screened on German TV and crowds of over 35 000 attended.
