Cape Town mayor in Tens support

Thu, 15 Jan 2009 13:12

Cape Town Tens tournament hosts Robbie Fleck and Bob Skinstad

Cape Town City Executive Mayor Helen Zille, who was recently voted the world's best mayor, has expressed her full support for the inaugural Cape Town Tens tournament.

Having also received the backing of the Western Province Rugby Football Union, Helen Zille's considerable support for this event is a major boost for the Cape Town Tens tournament, which takes place in just three weeks' time - on 7-8 February.

The tournament, which has already attracted over 40 teams from all over the world, is the brainchild of former Springbok stars Bob Skinstad and Robbie Fleck and will be hosted at Hamilton RFC, the oldest rugby club in South Africa.

Tournament hosts Skinstad and Fleck will be playing in the tournament, along with former Bok team-mate Breyton Paulse, whilst ex-All Blacks star Kees Meeuws will also be in attendance thanks to his association with sponsors adidas.

"I would like to express my support for the proposed Tens rugby tournament to be held in the City of Cape Town in February 2009," said Zille.

"Bobby Skinstad and Robbie Fleck are rugby legends in the Cape and I am confident that their planned tournament will be a valuable addition to Cape Town's sporting and social calendar. It will also be a great boost to tourism to our City.

"I wish them every success and look forward to the event becoming a very popular annual event."
