South African Rugby Union (SARU) President Oregan Hoskins has entered the South Western Districs (SWD) fracas as a mediator.
There was drama before the kick-off of the SWD Vodacom Cup match against Free State at Saasveld in George last weekend because of a payment dispute between the SWD players and the Union.
Although the dispute was resolved, the SWD captain Victor Joubert withdrew from the side shortly before the kick-off.
In his capacity as SARU President, Hoskins attended meetings with all parties in the dispute involving the management of the SWD Rugby Union and Eagles (Pty) Ltd.
"I was asked by the South African Rugby Players’ Association (SARPA) to lend assistance and I have listened to all parties," said Hoskins.
"The Union is experiencing severe internal difficulties which led to their request for the postponement of their match against the Pampas XV [scheduled for Saturday in Mossel Bay].
"The solution to the problems lies in the hands of the interested parties and they must now resolve those issues for the good of rugby in the region. But I remain committed to assisting as a mediator in the dispute in the hope that we can have a speedy resolution."
