Springbok star's season over?

Another blow: Andries Bekker's season is in serious doubt. (c) Gallo

Towering Springbok lock Andries Bekker looks set to miss the rest of the 2010 rugby season with a back injury which might require surgery.

Bekker showed some superb form during the Super 14 for eventual runners-up, the Stormers, but was forced into leaving the Bok touring party Down Under after picking up a lower back injury in the Boks' second Tri-Nations Test against New Zealand in Wellington.

(He was then forced to miss the weekend's clash against the Wallabies in Brisbane.)

When contacted by rugby365.com on Tuesday morning, Western Province spokesperson Gavin Lewis told us that all would be revealed at a WP press conference this afternoon.

Watch this space as the story unfolds - in what would be a big blow for the Boks, the table-topping WP and, of course, the player whom many regard as Victor Matfield's obvious successor in the Green & Gold No.5 jersey.
