Supporters get a sneak peek of what to expect
The City of Cape Town has secured an arrangement with the Boland Rugby Union to host the traditional pre-season friendly between the Boland Cavaliers and the Stormers at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, February 9.
The game will be in preparation for the 2013 Vodacom Cup and Super Rugby competitions.
“This game has become a popular event on the South African rugby calendar over the years. Supporters get a sneak peek of what to expect of their teams in the up-and-coming rugby season,” said Councillor Grant Pascoe, Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Marketing.
While the Boland Cavaliers will use this game as an opportunity to measure themselves against a quality Super Rugby outfit, the Stormers will use it to view the team’s progress and to test different combinations before the Super Rugby campaign kicks-off.
Both Boland Rugby and Western Province Rugby will also get an opportunity to further test their team’s depth for the Vodacom Cup season, with a curtain raiser scheduled before the main event between a Boland Invitational XV (players selected from Boland clubs) and the Western Province Vodacom Cup side.
