Schools Day at Newlands, 2013
Sun, 10 Mar 2013 20:08
Western Province Schools will be holding their ninth Newlands Rugby Day on Monday, 18 March 2013.
A Schools Day was started at Newlands in 1927 for 1st XVs and Under-15 teams. It was held each year till 1950.
In 2005 the Schools Day at Newlands was resuscitated but in different format. The first form had been a competition on a knock-out basis. The modern one is not a competition but just a set of fixtures for shortened matches of 20 minutes each way.
There will be three categories of participants - mini rugby, Under 13 and 1st XV.
The only prize will be for the school whose supporters perform the best warcries and sing-songs during the event.
