The Cheetahs have made just one change for their trip to Durban and a Super Rugby encounter with the Sharks on Saturday.

Springbok prop Coenie Oosthuizen, after weeks of playing off the bench, will start at loosehead prop.

He replaces the impressive Trevor Nyakane, who has not recovered from a hip pointer, which means that Caylib Oosthuizen gets an opportunity off the bench.

Like all the Super Rugby squads the Cheetahs could only start their preparations in all earnest on Wednesday, with their Springbok squad members arriving back from Cape Town late on Tuesday.

There were no lingering injuries from last week's 20-26 loss to the Bulls, but utility back Riaan Smit and flyhalf Elgar Watts have started training after recovering from their respective injuries.

However, the Cheetahs coaching staff resisted the temptation to rush them back into the squad, with Burton Francis continuing his starting role after a number of impressive performances.

Riaan Smith struggled with hamstring problems, which forced him to withdraw shortly before the Cheetahs' encounter with the Rebels last month.

Watts pulled a hamstring in training ahead of the Cheetahs' opening tour match, against the Chiefs early in March.
