SA President's XV coach Jimmy Stonehouse has named a strong team for their opening clash against Uruguay in the inaugural IRB Tbilisi Cup in Georgia on Friday.
Experienced Leopards lock Brendon Snyman, who led the team to a 26-23 victory against Namibia in Windhoek two weeks ago, will captain the side, with Boland Cavaliers flyhalf Ricardo Croy named as the vice-captain.
The match-day 22 features two players with Super Rugby experience in Pumas centre Stefan Watermeyer and wing Wilmaure Louw. Pumas loose forward Renaldo Bothma, formerly of the Golden Lions, brings Currie Cup experience to the team.
With all 11 Pumas players in the match-22 having participated in the Vodacom Cup final against the Golden Lions three weeks ago, the backline combination of Jerome Pretorius, Louw and Watermeyer, and flanks Uzair Cassiem and Jaco Bouwer are expected to form a vital cog in the team.
Looking ahead at their opening clash, Stonehouse said: "It is a huge opportunity to compete against the likes of Emerging Ireland, Georgia and Uruguay, so we are looking forward to getting the tournament underway.
"Our training sessions in Tbilisi have been good and the players are looking forward to the clash against Uruguay. That said we realise it won't be an easy tournament, especially given the competition from Ireland, as their team features two Test players and seven players from Ulster.
"However, names mean nothing, what happens on the field will determine the outcome of the match."
The team will line up against the Emerging Ireland team on Tuesday before meeting Georgia in their final clash next week Sunday.
