Experienced lock James Broadhurst has re-signed with the Hurricanes for the next two seasons through to 2015.

Experienced lock James Broadhurst has re-signed with the Hurricanes for the next two seasons through to 2015.

“The Hurricanes gave me my first opportunity at Super Rugby level which is something I haven’t forgotten. I also believe this team has the potential to go somewhere great and I wanted to be a part of it,” Broadhurst said on Thursday.

Hurricanes CEO, James Te Puni added, “As a talented player, we know James had lots of options available to him, so I’m really pleased to see him commit to the Canes. He is a real asset to our team and wears the Hurricanes jersey with pride.”

The 2.01m tall lock first appeared for the Hurricanes in 2010 and has since clocked up 40 caps for the franchise. Broadhurst has also represented New Zealand at Under-19 and Under-21 grades.

Hurricanes head coach Mark Hammett was delighted to see Broadhurst commit to the Canes following the recent signings of Dane Coles and Jeremy Thrush for three and two years respectively.

Hammett said: “Broady is committed to seeing this team do well. He has matured as a player this year and is determined to play his part in the Hurricanes winning in the future.”
