Part of the Western Province side that won the Vodacom Cup last year
Western Province scrumhalf Ricky Schroeder is heading to Johannesburg after signing a two-year deal with the Lions.
The livewire 22-year-old halfback will join the Lions next year as they make their return to Super Rugby after a year in the wilderness.
Schroeder represented Western Province throughout the age groups, attending Grant Khomo and Craven Week during his school career before going on to win the Varsity Cup with UCT in 2011.
He was part of the Western Province side that won the Vodacom Cup last year, but could not break into the Currie Cup side and went on loan to the Boland Cavaliers this year. He will compete with the experienced Michael Bondesio and Ross Cronje for a starting berth inside Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies next season.
The Lions confirmed the news via Twitter:
