Fijian ear-biter gets 20-week ban
NRC UPDATE: Fijian Drua hooker Samu Suguturaga received a 20-week suspension after pleading guilty to biting the ear of the opposition.
Suguturaga went before a National Rugby Championship (NRC) judicial hearing in Brisbane on Tuesday after being cited for an incident in a scrum during his team's Round One NRC match against Brisbane City at Ballymore Stadium last Saturday.
The hooker bit the ear of Brisbane City hooker Andrew Ready.
He pleaded guilty to the charge of Law 10.4(m) Biting and was consequently punished with a five-month ban.
Judicial Officer, Paul Tully found that the conduct was in the high end for this offence which has an entry point of 24 weeks.
The player received a reduction due to certain mitigating circumstances.
Suguturaga attended the hearing in person and was represented by Tim Matthews QC and team manager, Chris Thomson. He has 48 hours to appeal the result.
