Uncapped Beaumont in England squad

Sale No.8 Beaumont, the son of 1980 England Grand Slam captain Bill Beaumont, now the Chairman of World Rugby, was one of seven uncapped players among the 37 who will head for a training camp in Brighton, on England's south coast, this weekend.

The other six players yet to make their England debut who have been included are No.8 Nathan Hughes, flank Mike Williams, scrumhalf Dan Robson and centres Ben Te'o and Joe Marchant.

Meanwhile Saracens back Alex Lozowski, the son of former England centre Rob Lozowski, has been included in a 45-man elite player squad.

But there was no place for Danny Cipriani, although England coach Eddie Jones – speaking to reporters at Twickenham on Friday – insisted it wasn't the "end of the road" for the talented flyhalf.

Former Australia and Japan coach Jones had presided over an impressive transformation in England's fortunes, having taken over after they became the first World Cup host nation to be knocked out of the tournament in the first round at last year's edition.

That perfect record will be at stake when four southern hemisphere sides – South Africa, Fiji, Argentina and Australia – all visit Twickenham on successive weekends in November and December – starting with the Springboks on November 12.

"With a number of players missing through injury it's a good opportunity for others to put their hands up and show us what they're made of," Jones said.

"I think it's a good situation to be in. Injuries allow us to strengthen the depth of our squad and develop robustness.

"Ideally, by the Rugby World Cup in 2019, we're looking to have three players in every position who are interchangeable.

"At the moment we have seven of our most influential players not playing regularly for their clubs, but that should be no excuse.
