Large samoa warm up 800

REPORT: Georgia upset the odds with a 20-16 win over Samoa and an arm-wrestle in Tbilisi on Saturday.

As was expedted the Georgian forwards laid the platform for the victory against a Samoan team that also did not get as many opportunities in open playt as they would have liked.

The forward dominance allowed Georgia to outscore Samoa by two tries to one.

Both tries came in the first half, with one one of those a penalty try in the 12th minute when Samoa's scrum was denolished on their five-metre line.

George Pisi crossed for the Pacific Islanders' only try in the 20th minute.

Georgia finished the half stronger thanks to a converted Beka Bitsadze try and a Kvirikashvili penalty, which meant they led 17-10 at half-time.

Samoa were more competitive in the second half and reduced the deficit to a point, when Faapale slotted two penalties.

However, Kvirikashvili secured victory for Georgia with a three-pointer from the kicking tee on the hour mark.
