Irish wary of Whiteley and Kriel

Whiteley made a big impact off the bench in the Springboks' 32-26 second-Test win at Ellis Park last weekend, while Kriel, who has been outstanding for the Lions in Super Rugby, is set to make his international debut off the bench in Port Elizabeth in the series decider.

"He [Whiteley] brings a good dynamic to the squad and he is obviously a leader as well, so we've got to keep a close eye on him at the weekend," said Murphy.

"We can't give him as much free space to roam around and do what he did last weekend.

"Jaco Kriel as well – he is a very dynamic and explosive player and I am sure he will be raring to go if he gets the chance off the bench."

Ireland will be hoping that the return of their own in-form flank CJ Stander from suspension will help them get the advantage in open play on Saturday.

"He [Stander] is raring to go. He is that kind of player who gives 100 percent on the pitch and he gives 100 percent in training as well. It is great to see him involved again," Murphy added.

Murphy, who played no part in the second Test last weekend, will be starting alongside Stander in Ireland's back row at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and believes they can make history on Saturday and win the series.

"I definitely think we can," said Murphy. "We played a good game in the first game and then a very good 60 minutes [in the second Test] and then we just took our foot off the peddle.

"I know we would have learnt from that and it will be different game and we will play for 80 minutes this weekend."
