Wild Knights are All-Japan Champions

It was clear from the start who the winner would be when wings Tomoki Kitagawa and Kentaro Kodama scored tries for the Wild Knights.

Wild Knights are All-Japan ChampionsRikiya Matsuda goaled a penalty for Teikyo but Akihito Yamada scored a third try for the Wild Knights who, with conversions by Berrick Barnes, went into half-time leading 21-13.

In the second half the Wild Knights scored two quick tries before Teikyo got their first, followed by two more for the victors. A consolation try for Teikyo ended the scoring.

The Wild Knights' tries in the first half were the creations of their backs but it was their forwards who manufactured the second half's tries.

After the match Wild Knights' coach Robbie Deans said: “It's a great way to conclude the year for us,. It was a tough game of rugby and very fast, and I would like to acknowledge the effort of Teikyo University.”

For three Wild Knights players this was sayonara, JP Pietersen is off to Leicester Tigers, Ben McCalman home to Australia and Hayden Parker home to New Zealand.

*There were also four promotion-relegation matches in which teams placed 13th to 16th in the Top League played three regional champions and a best runner-up.

Only one of the four contenders won its way into the Top League – Munakata Blues after beating the Red Hurricanes 19-15. Munakata had been relegated at the end of the 2014-15 season.

Kyuden Voltex, the runners-up of Top West region, just missed out when they drew 14-all with the Red Sparks. It was enough for the Red Sparks to stay up.

After the snow was cleared from the Kumagaya Rugby Ground, two matches took place in which both Top League sides kept their places. The Green Rockets beat Top East champions Sagamihara Dynaboars 17-3 and the Black Rams were rampant in beating Osaka Police, the Top West champions, 76-0.
