France and England played last week at Twickenham and this week they are at Stade de France. They are preparing for the World Cup. Now we can have Test matches which are match practices.
In Papua New Guinea the Oceania Cup tournament starts and Europe's Under-20 Championship kicks off.
France's Pro D2 is not yet settled as Lille are taking the Ligue Nationale de Rugby to court in Versailles after not being promoted to Pro D2 as it felt was its right. The decision will be made on 19 August, after which it will be known whether Perpignan play Lille or Dax.
There is some shuffling of French referees following the retirement from professional rugby of Christophe Berdos and Patrick Péchambert for turning 45. One of those to come up, Luc Ramos, was at the recent Under-18 tournament in the Western Cape.
In Australia, the National Rugby Championship gets under way and in New Zealand the Heartland Championship. Some are starting up as others are closing down!
