A little test on general laws
We have not had a little referees' test for a long time. This is just a mixture of incidents which happen in an imaginary match between the Ozzie Warblers and the All Blocks.
The incidents are all possible and all governed by laws. To make life easier we have given a selection of possible actions for the referee.
You are the referee. You have to choose the decision which you believe to be the right one.
There is no catch. The incidents are, we hope, fully described. That means that if you get it wrong, don't hide behind "But I was playing advantage."
You will also not be unsighted and not be intimidated by the crowd. You can do it all in private and only you will know if you do not get ten out of ten.
If you fail to get ten out of ten, never shout at a referee again - never!
1. Daniel Brique of the All Blocks kicks off to start the match. He kicks a high dropkick which drops to earth. Nathan Cannari of the Ozzie Warblers and Chris Queube of the All Blocks jump for the ball which is dropping short of the Ozzie Warblers 10-metre line. Nine metres from the half-way line Cannari's hand strikes the ball and knock it towards the half-way line. Phil Warbler of the Ozzie Warblers plunges after the ball and secures it.
You will
a. allow play to continue
b. award a scrum to the Ozzie Warblers on the half-way line.
c. award a scrum to the All Blocks, nine metres from the half-way line.
2. From a defensive five-metre scrum, George Wren of the Ozzie Warblers passes the ball back to Stephen Lark who is in his in-goal area. Lark kicks. It is a low kick. It crosses the goal-line into the field of play where Richie Opstikkel of the All Blocks charges the ball down. It bounces off his chest over the goal-line and over the dead-ball line.
You will order:
a. a drop-out
b. a five-metre scrum to the Ozzie Warblers
c. a five-metre scrum to the All Blocks.
3. The Ozzie Warblers are to throw the ball into a line-out. They have six players in the line-put, the All Blocks three. Jeremy Magpaye of the Ozzie Warblers throws in. Chris Queube grAll Blockss the ball for the All Blocks and passes it to Byron Slabb.

You will order
a. a drop-out
b. a five-metre scrum, Ozzie Warblers ball
c. a five-metre scrum, All Blocks ball.
5. As Tana Hedd of the All Blocks runs past Stirling Thrush of the Ozzie Warblers, Thrush catches hold of Hedd's ankle. Ankle held, Hedd falls to the ground while Thrush stays ion his feet. As Hedd releases the ball, Thrush darts forward and picks up the ball.

6. Chris Roller of the Ozzie Warblers kicks the ball downfield. After he has kicked, Richie Opstikkel tackles him. The tackle is late. The ball comes to ground 27 metres downfield and six metres in from touch. The ball rolls on and goes into touch on the All Blocks 22.
You will penalise the late tackle and give the Ozzie Warblers a choice which will be:

b. where Roller kicked the ball and where it landed but 15 metres in from touch
c. where Roller kicked the ball and on the All Blocks 22, but 15 metres in from touch.
