Christmas plays against New Year in this week's match. You, having been abstemious through this period of excess, are the referee, alert, unbiased and untroubled by the festive crowd who sing carols throughout the match.
In each of these you have made the decision. What you now have to do is say where the next phase of play will take place. It's not hard at all. In fact its gift-wrapped with tinsel.
1. To'o'o Sicks, the New Year flyhalf, kicks a long kick down the middle of the field where the ball is caught by Jean Gillbels, the Christmas fullback, who drops the ball. But when Sicks kicks you see that his right wing, Neville Annay, is seven metres ahead of him. Annay starts running after the ball. You decide he is off-side.
You penalise New Year

b. where Sicks kicks
c. where Gillbels catches the ball
2. Red Holly-Berry, the Christmas hooker, throws into a line-out. His lock Noel Shepherd, standing at No.2 in the line-out about seven metres in from touch, leaps high and catches the ball but as he comes down he knocks on.
