Cavaliers lean on Van Niekerk
Wed, 02 Jul 2008 19:32
Boland Cavaliers strongman Janro van Niekerk is back at loosehead prop for Friday's Currie Cup clash against Griquas at Wellington.
Van Niekerk, who made his mark with some powerful scrumming at the Nations Cup in Romania recently, replaces young Jean Botha, who withdrew with a neck spasm.
However, SA Under-20 scrumhalf Dewaldt Duvenage will start on the bench following Marnus Hugo's fine performance against the Sharks in Durban last weekend.
Boland will also field new cap Bradley Mockford, a towering 2,03m giant who played for the London Irish last year.
Mockford replaces Cecil Kemp, who will start on the bench.
The match will also be lock Coenie Basson's last before he leaves to join Bourgoin in France.
The Cavaliers aim to get five points out of this match, but Griquas are set to hit back hard after two consecutive defeats against the Cheetahs and the Falcons.
