Blue Bulls 'cavalry' on the way

Fri, 25 Jul 2008 13:34

The Blue Bulls are in pretty good shape at the top of the Currie Cup standings, and it seems as if things are going to get even better for them in the near future.

After a positive start against the Lions, the Bulls encountered a hiccup at Newlands, going down to Western Province in a 17-26 reverse that was somewhat controversial after a tight call on a forward pass was allowed to stand by the television match official.

But since then, the Bulls have not looked back, and notched up impressive wins over the Sharks, the Free State Cheetahs and Boland Cavaliers to race to the top of the log.

And while many of their Currie Cup rivals are now struggling with injury problems, things are looking very positive for the Bulls.

The reason for that is the imminent return of some key players that will add depth and power to Blue Bulls squad, and should serve to enhance their great current form.

The Bulls have a Currie Cup bye this weekend, which has afforded their walking wounded some valuable recovery time.

Word from the official Blue Bulls website is that Tiger Mangweni and Pedrie Wannenburg, who both injured their ankles against the Boland Cavaliers, will recover in time for the fixture in Brakpan against the Falcons next weekend.

More pertinently, players that have been suffering with long-term injuries, such as Springbok centre Wayne Julies, eighthman Dewald Potgieter and scrumhalf Heini Adams, should also be available for selection next week.
