Under-19: Tonga beat Samoa - just

On Day 2 of the Oceania Under-19 tournament in Fiji, Tonga beat Samoa 13-10 on Saturday. The match was played in Churchill Park, Lautoka.
Tonga play Fiji on Tuesday. Fiji beat Samoa 14-12.
In another Day 2 match Papua New Guinea thrashed Vanuatu 47-0.
Tonga vs Samoa, 13-10
Samoa opened the scoring with a try by right wing Leuma Tuiloli which flyhalf Karl Malielegaoi converted.
Three minutes later lock Seilame Tukuafu scored Tonga's first try but Malielegaoi kicked a penalty to keep Samoa ahead. Then fullback Vilisoni Fakakovikaetau scored Tonga's second try.
At half-time the score was 10-10.
The only score in the second half was a penalty goal by Usaia Kalamafoiai who had taken over the kicking from Fakakovikateau.
Famous Isitolo Maka, the Tongan coach, said afterwards: “This was a great physical game. And I am proud at the way my boys played especially in their defence in the first half. Samoa had a great many opportunities to score tries but the boys held their ground.
“I am here to win every game whether it be Fiji or any other team. And I believe we have set the platform through this win.

It took Papua New Guinea 21 minutes to get on the scoreboard and then via a penalty goal by flyhalf Junior Kautu but from then on scoring came rapidly and by half-time Papua New Guinea led 29-0.
Afterwards Robin Tarere, the Papua New Guinea coach, said: “I am happy with the boys’ performance. Our main goal today was to win. The ultimate goal for us in this tournament was to try and finish at the top so as to secure a spot in the coming Junior World Cup. This is the stepping stone to that and I am happy that we have managed to keep our scoring sheets clean.
“We return to camp and try and brush up loose ends and await our next opponent.”
