Ruddock reminded of old Mr Jones

Tue, 07 Oct 2008 15:38

Worcester boss Mike Ruddock says he is delighted to see young flyhalf Matthew Jones back to his old self, and is convinced it can only be a good thing for the Warriors.

A former Ospreys player, Jones only moved to Sixways this season and has since been reunited with the coach who gave him his first international cap.

With two strong performances recently against Harlequins and London Irish Jones has certainly impressed many in the game, but none more so than Ruddock himself.

“I thought Matt was very good against London Irish in the EDF Energy Cup and made very good decisions under pressure, when to run and when to kick,” said Ruddock.

“The mix in his game was really good and I told him that at half-time, he put some long punts in and turned the opposition and at times he passed the ball very well from the set piece or ruck. His grubber kicks were also keeping them on the toes. There was a lot of good game management by him and decision making.”

Key to his re-found form though, according to his coach, is the renewed believe the No. 10 seems to have in himself, and in his ability to perform at the highest level.

“He is starting to grow in confidence. I can see a change in his body language where he is starting to look like the Matt Jones I remember from a few years ago and that can only be good news for Warriors.”
