Noah taking it game by game

Fri, 10 Oct 2008 18:49

England Under-20 Six Nations Gland Slam winner Noah Cato says he is determined to keep on improving his performances and earn a regular place in the Saracens starting lineup.

Cato made a fine start to his season with a try for the 'Men in Black' during their EDF Energy Cup match against the Scarlets last week but admits the fine performance had ultimately been a disappointing outing after the side went down 26-17 to the Welsh team.

While the talented wing is yet to hear whether or not he will make the starting lineup for Sunday’s European Challenge Cup clash at Vicarage Road against Mont de Marsan, he says he understands that competition for a starting spots is tough at the top level. He is though committed to continuing to improve his game and is confident he will be able to take his chances when they come his way.

“I was delighted to get the chance to play and be part of it again and my aim this weekend is to try and take my chance so that I can earn a regular place in the team.

“We’ve got a strong squad at Saracens and there is a lot of competition in the back three so when you get the opportunities; you have to take them. There are still a number of areas of my game that I need to improve and that is what I am trying to do each week.

“I think you also have to make sure that when you do come into the team, you don’t try to do too much. That may sound strange but you have to make sure you do your job for the team. You don’t want to be running down blind alleys or going off piste and then finding yourself isolated – that doesn’t help anybody. So you want to impress, but you do that by doing what is best for the team.”

Incredibly quick and highly rated by Eddie Jones and his staff at Saracens, Cato says he is looking forward to having the opportunity to spend the whole year at the club now that he is ineligible for the U-20’s. With so many experienced heads currently at the club, the former England sevens star is eager to take on board as much as possible.

“I’ve got the full year here now and that is something I’m looking forward to because it’s an important time for me.

“I’ve got the whole year to spend with the coaches and the senior guys in the squad and that is something I’m looking to take advantage of. The key for me is to keep improving and backing up those performances each week.”
