Lyons hunting Easter

Fri, 10 Oct 2008 19:08

Former Australian No. 8 David Lyons admits he has revenge on his mind as he prepares to lineup for Scarlets in their Heineken Cup clash with Harlequins on Saturday.

Lyons was of course a member of the Wallaby squad that were knocked out of the 2007 Rugby World Cup by England in the quarterfinal stage. One of the chief destroyers that day for the Red and Whites was of course Quins loose forward, Nick Easter.

Easter finds himself on the bench this weekend as Quins travel to Stradey Park but Lyons says he will definitely be targeting Easter should be make it on to the field.

"I've seen Nick a lot over the last year especially in the World Cup quarter-final when England beat us.

"I had broken my leg and was watching on from the sidelines and I can remember he had a great game that day.

"He will definitely be someone I will keep my eye on. He does a lot of the ugly stuff and hard graft but is still a quality ball carrier."

Twenty-eight year old Lyons says he has always been a keen admirer of the Heineken Cup and, now that he is here and playing, he is keen to help his new team go as far as possible.

"I didn't come over here for a holiday and I'm really excited about playing in the Heineken Cup.

"I've always wanted to play on one game and it's one of the last things for me to tick off. I've watched it on TV in Australia and noticed the intensity and support.

The match of course also represents the final Euro tie at Stardey Park before the Scarlets made their move to Parc y Scarlets in November. Despite the fact that he is still new to Llanelli, Lyons says he is well aware of the importance of the ground and is keen for him and his team to give it a fitting European farewell.

"It will be a big occasion at Stradey Park. It's a great rugby venue and you can not escape the history. Hopefully the final European game will spark our best form because we want to put on a great display that this place deserves."
